Info Biofreeze Pain Relieving Gel

Uses

With the Biofreeze products:
- GEL,
- 360 Spray,
- Roll on,
- On-the-go,
you can relief pain from muscles and joint aches, and relief pain/stiffness related to arthritis, bruises, strains and sprains.
It is not necessary having a massage when applying this pain reliever.

What It Does

The menthol in Biofreeze creates a sensation that overrides pain signals to the brain. Menthol may also stimulate cold receptors in the skin that can help regulate pain.

Biofreeze vs Icy Hot

Icy Hot contains the ingredient methyl salicylate which might irritate somewhat (but that's quite personal). Biofreeze does not contain that ingredient. For more on methyl salicylate read about Biofreeze vs Salonpas on this page.

Biofreeze vs Salonpas

Both topicals are meant for back pain, sore muscles and joints. The Menthol active ingredient in Biofreeze is 4%, versus 10% in Salonpas.
A higher percentage of Menthol is more pain relieving, so Salonpas might be more pain relieving than Biofreeze..

Methyl Salicylate (MS) in Salonpas.
Salonpas has one more active ingredient: Methyl Salicylate 15%, which is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug).
In a Harvard Medical School article, you can read that there's no solid proof that MS provides pain relief. It is advices to consult a doctor when you wanna use topical medication that contains salicylates, especially when you're allergic for aspirin or taking blood thinners for cardiovascular disease.

Biofreeze vs Perform pain relieving gel

Biofreeze has a bit higher menthol level: 4% vs 3.5% and has added ingredients such as camphor and arnica.
